Animal Advocate
My teaching, research, and public talks emphasize the interconnection between human and animal liberation. I advocate a decolonial and contextual veganism grounded in recognition of the sacred spark within every living being.
A New Lens on Veganism
The popular discourse on veganism frames it as the purview of animal-rights “extremists” or a passing health fad. The reality, however, is that veganism is a global, multi-cultural movement to resist the desecration of animals, people, and Earth.
Some ways that animal and human oppression are connected:
Industrial animal agriculture is traumatic for slaughterhouse workers, who may suffer from PITS: Perpetration-Induced Traumatic Syndrome.
The expansion of meat consumption is fueling the destruction of rainforests and destroying Indigenous peoples’ lands.
The control and commodification of animals’ reproductive systems has supported similar exploitation of women’s bodies.
An animal-centered diet is leading to devastating health consequences for diverse peoples.
